A rustic copper wall-cladding system gives this mixed-use building a unique lifecycle that adds character to this Pittsburgh neighborhood. Ellsworth Center II, which houses offices and retail shops, reactivates Ellsworth Avenue, a main commercial block in the Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh. The building's irregular upper stories maintain a vibrant buoyancy with a rhythm of windows dancing between horizontal copper panels. The building acts as a catalyst for progress in its environment, attracting an energetic, hip community of college students and young professionals. Copper was chosen for the Ellsworth Center II because of the natural beauty of its patina and the durability of its maturing process. As Shadyside continues to emerge as a progressive commercial district, the copper's ever-changing surfaces will serve to visually represent that transformation.
