The Madrone Ridge residence nestles into a promontory overlooking Sonoma County. Inspired by its natural surroundings, the design caters to a young family with a strong connection to the site. The team paid rigorous attention to detail while designing three pavilions covered in copper cladding to improve resilience, reduce maintenance, and establish a visual relationship to the surrounding Madrone trees. Breezeways among the pavilions link the three volumes while maintaining a connection with the outdoors.

Innovative downturned roof overhangs provide shading in summer through segments of perforated panels carefully coordinated to align with the exposed structure. The copper skin not only highlights the building’s engagement with the surrounding trees, but also creates a captivating interplay of light and shadow that enhances the interior spaces of the home.
