Copper Plumbing Expert, William E. Coffey, Dead at 74

Following his retirement from CDA in 1993, Coffey remained active in the copper industry as director of the Copper Advisory Group, Ltd., a Longmont-based consulting firm dealing with codes, corrosion, fabrication and training programs.

At CDA, he was responsible for providing technical assistance to the building construction markets, instruction on the installation of copper products and the promotion of their use. He established the successful copper training course held each year for the United Association Instructor Training Program. He was also a regular instructor on metal roofing at the Roofing Industry Educational Institute in Denver.

Before joining CDA in 1963, Coffey was employed by the Copper and Brass Research Association of New York. Before that, he served as the chief building official for the city of Greeley, Colorado, and earlier, as a consultant engaged in the design, engineering and supervision of residential, institutional, industrial and commercial structures.

Coffey served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the European Theatre and was separated in 1947 with the rank of Captain. He held a B.S. in Architectural Engineering from the University of California. He is survived by his wife, Gerry, of Longmont, and brother, Claude, of Aurora.
